The Montessori Method is on the rise these days. How did the pedagogical ideas of an Italian doctor from the last century become so successful, and what can we learn from her?
If you don’t work in a Montessori school but are curious about this method and want to understand if there is something you can do to implement some strategies about this extraordinary approach into your everyday activity, this is the course for you.
We will analyze the story of the Montessori Method and the theory behind her approach, also digging in some of her iconic discoveries (the absorbing mind of children, just to name one!).
We will also observe the activities and the materials from the Montessori Curriculum, filmed in a real Montessori school, explained by Montessori trained instructors.
After exploring the formal method, we will focus on the use that we can do of it today, in your school: first of all, how to use technology in a “Montessori approved” way, and also how to build your own materials and what to pay attention to.
At the end of the course, you will also find a series of downloadable and printable materials to use in your classroom right away!
In this unit, we will introduce Maria Montessori, and our workbook: a printable companion of this course!
First, we will approach the “facts and myths” of the Montessori approach, check out what is true and what is not!
Then, we will tackle the main points of the theoretical base on which the Montessori method is base such as the absorbing mind, the sensitive phases and the importance of concentration.
We will look at the characteristic of this magic phase in the child’s life, exploring the importance of the Montessori approach both at home and at school.
We will look at the characteristic of the most studied phase, the one the doctor worked with at her “casa dei bambini”. We will observe the main aspects of the curriculum: Practical life, sensorial, math, language, cosmic education and art.
We will look at the characteristic of the child at this age, the age of primary school. We will observe the main aspects of the curriculum: Cosmic education, maths, and language.
In this unit, we will take a look at how today’s schools are adapting to the use of technology in the classroom while following the indication of a Montessori Pedagogy.
In this unit, we will try to give you as many suggestions as possible to implement some aspects of the Montessori Philosophy in your daily activities, also providing some ready to print activities!
