During this course, you will learn how to upgrade your lessons and school environment to the new holistic educational paradigm, called Positive Education, inspired by Positive Psychology principles and Mindfulness practice.
You will learn how to facilitate wellbeing and happiness skills in your students, such as strengthen relationships, build positive emotions, enhance personal resilience and encourage a healthy lifestyle. Also, you will learn how to promote Mindfulness practice to help them to cope with stress, focus on the present moment, achieve goals, increase self-awareness, and empathy.
All these topics will also be helpful to create a positive and collaborative environment in all school staff and support you in the achievement of balance in your own life.
Lesson 1: What is Happiness? What is Positive education?
Learn the benefits of happiness on health and education and learn skills that you can practice and teach to your students and share with your colleagues. During this class you will also learn about the new educational paradigm, Positive education, inspired by Positive Psychology principles and Mindfulness practice.
Lesson 2: The PERMA Model for well-being in Education
Developed by Martin Seligman, one of the founders of positive psychology, this model will inspire us how to facilitate positive emotions (P), Engagement (E), positive relationships (R), meaning (M) and Accomplishment (A) in the classroom and in general in the school environment.
Lesson 3: Resilience and Character Strengths
The 24 strengths model of Martin Seligman and Christopher Peterson (24 Character Strengths) will guide us in identifying the strengths that can facilitate self-awareness, resilience and well-being in your students.
Lesson 4: Mindfulness for teachers
Mindfulness is defined by Jon Kabat Zinn as “awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally” and it is useful in every aspect of life to reduce stress and maintain a good level of psycho-physical balance. Find out how to facilitate short mindfulness practices in the classroom also to facilitate concentration, to cope with stressful moments, to connect with yourself and the others and much more.
Lesson 5: Positive education in your school
In the last part of the course, I will share with you suggestions and ideas to integrate positive education and mindfulness in your lessons, in your professional and personal life.
