Web Tools for Teachers: ✨Tricks and 😨 Treats of e-learning

The use of technology in education can bring about a lot of advantages for students as well as a nuisance for teachers. The offer of learning apps and platforms is huge, which is great but… that can also lead to confusion. Actually, many teachers’ headaches can be avoided knowing how to choose the right platform for the right purpose.

Instead of feeling old-fashioned, overwhelmed, or ineffective, teachers can explore the potential of user-friendly ICT tools which enable them to create enjoyable materials and tasks.

This Europass Talk is the introductory session to Ilaria’s online course “Web Tools for Teachers: Tricks and Treats of e-learning”, you can discover more about it here.

Homework ⚔️ Home-learning

In this we discuss our experiences around homework, both as students ourselves and as teachers…maybe even as parents!

We consider why homework is often the source of stress, anxiety and conflict and we will identify some of the reasons for this. Reflecting on our experiences of when homework has worked well and when it has become a form of punishment, for everyone. Taking time to share ideas about how we would like homework to look and feel for us and our students…and parents!

With a growth mindset, we then discuss ways that we can empower ourselves to take responsibility for reducing these negative impacts of homework by finding ways of turning homework into home-learning.

Collaboration, Motivation, and Evaluation 😎

In this Talk, we share the joys and the sorrows about being teachers: trying to understand more about motivation in learning and exploring why, sometimes, it seems missing.
We mention the importance of giving relevance to the topics we teach, proposing collaborative tasks, and making the evaluation process more meaningful for students. Most of the difficulties regarding the teacher’s role are not just brought about today, in Covid-19 time, by the need of providing online lessons… they have actually been there from the dawn of time.
